Airbnb Offers Free Housing to Young Center Staff Working to Unite Immigrant Families

Airbnb to provide free housing for immigrant-family reunifications

The housing vouchers will allow workers at the nonprofit Young Center attempting to reconnect parents and children to stay cost-free in New York City, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Houston, and Harlingen, Texas. Airbnb also will house volunteers and employees receiving training from the Young Center, permitting the organization to enlarge its operations.

"Right now volunteers and staff at the Young Center are toiling day and night to make families whole again by reuniting separated children with their parents," Chris Lehane, head of global policy for Airbnb, said in a statement. "Working with our community of hosts, we are just trying to lend a small helping hand to make it a little easier for these advocates and to hopefully ensure that the families for whom they advocate can be reunited that much sooner."

"The Young Center is grateful for the generous support from Airbnb at this critical time, and we hope this is the beginning of a great alliance as we work toward our mission of ensuring immigrant children are treated first as children," said Maria Woltjen, executive director for the group, which is based out of the University of Chicago.
