Mentors: 1L Mentoring Program Sign-Up (2026)

Thank you for your interest in serving as an alumni mentor with the University of Chicago Law 1L Mentoring Program!

The 1L Mentoring Program provides first-year law students with the opportunity to be paired with an alumni mentor to equip them with the tools and resources to guide their success in the legal profession.

Recruitment for the 2026-27 program is now open. To serve as a volunteer alumni mentor, please complete and submit the form below by Monday, September 28, 2026, at 5:00 PM Central Time.

Program notes:

• Although we ask you to fill out this form now, we will not have pairings completed until late October. Pairings will be based on the information that you provide.

• The program includes both Chicago-based pairings and virtual pairings with alumni located outside of Chicago. Note: Chicago-based mentors are not required to meet in-person, though we encourage it when schedules allow.

• Please review the mentoring program materials, including FAQs and How to Make the Most of Your Mentoring Relationship, before submitting this form.

• While we do our best to pair every alum with a student mentee, pairings are based on student interest and/or demand, and we cannot guarantee you will be matched with a student.

Interested in connecting with current students, but can't commit to a 1:1 mentoring pairing? There is a place on the form below under the "How would you like to connect with students?" question to note you are willing to be included in the alumni outreach list.

The alumni outreach list is meant to offer current students a platform in which they can directly contact Law School alumni via email for one-off, targeted questions. Current students may reach out to alumni with questions about the Law School experience, shared interests in Law School student organization/activity experiences, questions navigating the legal profession, or to connect with UChicago alumni practicing in a particular geographic area or employer type.

We will send all participants a directory with the contact information of the mentors and mentees participating in the 1L Mentoring Program. This directory provides participants an additional way to connect. If you do not opt-in to be included in the directory, you will not be listed.
