Weymouth Kirkland Courtroom

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit is pleased to announce that it is sitting in Chicago, Illinois as part of its October 2018 session. The Federal Circuit will also hold its regular session in Washington, DC. Several panels of the court will hear arguments at Chicago-area law schools and the federal courthouse.

The Federal Circuit regularly hears arguments outside of Washington, DC as part of its nationwide jurisdiction and statutory requirement to provide “reasonable opportunities to citizens to appear before the court.” Most recently, the Federal Circuit has held sessions in New York City, New York; Los Angeles, California; Boston, Massachusetts; Baltimore, Maryland; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Wilmington, Delaware.

These arguments are open to the public. Anyone wishing to attend must register.

Please note these important logistical issues:

  • Audience members may not bring bags, food, or drinks into the Courtroom.
  • Audience members must bring a form of ID upon check in.
  • All cell phones must be turned off while in the Courtroom.
  • Audience members may enter or exit the Courtroom ONLY between cases when counsel is switching out, and should do so quickly and quietly. Security will not permit entrance and exit during the hearing of any case. The doors will only be opened in between cases.
  • Everyone in the Courtroom must adhere to the Federal Circuit's standards of courtroom decorum
