The University of Chicago Law School is accepting applications for the 2025 Salzburg Lloyd N. Cutler Fellows Program. 2L, 3L, and LL.M students are encouraged to apply and four candidates will be selected to participate in the Program.  The Salzburg Cutler Fellows Program brings together 56 of the nation’s top law students with leading academics, judges, and practitioners in the fields of private and public international law.  The Program examines the most critical issues shaping today’s international law agenda and creates a network of men and women interested in careers in international practice and public service. Cutler Fellows are also invited to apply for scholarships to attend seminars in Salzburg, Austria, on topics relevant to their papers and professional interests. 2025 Salzburg Global Seminar participants’ travel expenses are covered by the University of Chicago Law School.

At the heart of the program is the preparation by each Fellow of a paper, to be submitted in title and keywords form due on 1/22/2025 and five-to-eight-page executive summary due on 2/3/2025, for review by the other participants and a group of outstanding law professors, judges, and practitioners.

The 2025 Seminar will be in a hybrid format, with two short online meetings (dates TBD) for orientation and a keynote address, followed by an in-person three-day program in Washington, DC on February 20th – 22nd, 2025. Cutler Fellows are divided into small sessions and will present their papers before faculty members and fellow participants of the same session and receive feedback from them. The in-person events will include public lectures and discussions with mentors (many of whom are Cutler Fellow alumni) to advise on different careers involving international law. All representatives are required to meet their school’s requirements for in-person instruction to attend.

Who Can Apply? This program is open to 2L, 3L, and LLM students.  Students with strong international experience and/or backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.  A maximum of four UChicago Law students will be admitted. The University of Chicago Law School will cover the travel costs, including an economy class plane ticket Chicago-DC-Chicago and a two-night lodging, for the participants who meet the University of Chicago requirements for domestic travel and choose to attend the event.
