Aleksejs Ivashuk has been active as a research and lecturer on the topic of statelessness in the European Union for over five years. In 2020 he has formed a network of stateless people in the European Union, Apatride Network, which is cooperating on a number of statelessness projects with international organizations such as the European Network on Statelessness, Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, and UNHCR.
