Lori E. Lightfoot is a Mayer Brown LLP partner in the Litigation and Conflict Resolution group based in Chicago. Lightfoot has extensive experience as a trial lawyer, investigator and risk manager. Lightfoot has tried over 20 cases in federal and state courts, on civil and criminal matters.
Lightfoot has served in a variety of public service roles – she served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Illinois where she investigated and prosecuted a variety of matters ranging from public corruption, violent crimes and drug trafficking. In addition, Lightfoot worked for the Chicago Police Department as the Chief Administrator of the Office of Professional Standards, a civilian unit within the Department which investigated police involved shootings and allegations of misconduct such as excessive force. Lightfoot also held other senior roles in the City of Chicago government.
More recently, after nomination by the Mayor of Chicago and confirmation by the Chicago City Council, Lightfoot now serves as the President of the Chicago Police Board, a quasi-judicial body which decides the guilt or innocence of police officers accused of serious misconduct. Lightfoot has also been a frequent commentator about police and community relations and police-involved shootings.
