Mayfield Entrapment Discussion
Room II
1111 East 60th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60637
Join Federal Criminal Justice Clinic client Leslie Mayfield, along with his attorney, Professor Zunkel, and Professors Lakier, Masur, McAdams, and Rappaport, in a discussion about his nine-year odyssey in the federal criminal justice system. Mr. Mayfield was charged in federal court in 2009 for conspiring to rob a fake drug stash house. At trial, the federal district court judge denied his request to present an entrapment defense, a decision that was later reversed by the Seventh Circuit on appeal. As a result of the Seventh Circuit’s decision, Mr. Mayfield’s conviction and 27-year sentence were overturned and he joined the Federal Criminal Justice Clinic’s stash house litigation, which alleged that the ATF targeted people for the fake drug stash house operation on the basis of race. Before a decision was made on the motion, Mr. Mayfield pled guilty and received a time-served.
