LSRJ, BLSA, and ACLU present Michele Goodwin, "Crow after Roe: The New Inequality Paradigms in Pregnancy"

2/9

Open to the public

Michele Goodwin, Chancellor’s Professor of Law at the University of California-Irvine, will examine the turn to policing women's reproduction through laws that criminalize "poor" maternal conduct during pregnancy.  She will discuss the role of doctors in carrying out such political and law enforcement agendas, arguing that instantiating doctors as quasi-law enforcement risks undermining healthcare objectives, and perpetuating racial and class hierarchies in pregnancies, and could deter pregnant women from seeking medical care.
