Law & Technology Society Presents Twittergate: Protecting and Policing Speech Online

4/14

Open to the public

On March 9, a Peoria, Illinois man was arrested and his home was searched because he had created a Twitter account parodying the town mayor. ACLU lawyer Karen Sheley, a First Amendment specialist helping the Peoria man sue over his "Twittergate" experience, and Assistant United States Attorney Bill Ridgway, who has prosecuted online threats and harassment, will discuss their experience and views on how online speech can be best policed and protected. Lunch will be served. Co-sponsored by Public Interest Law Society, ACLU, Criminal Law Society, and the American Constitution Society. This event is free and open to the public, but seating may be limited.
