HemSoc Presents: Champagne Sabering with Prof. Masur
South Green Lounge
1111 East 60th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60637
The Hemingway Society (HemSoc)— a storied UChicago club— will return with a bang (or should we say a pop?) this Wednesday, October 19th at 6:00PM in the Green Lounge!! Our inaugural event, per tradition, will feature the exciting art of champagne sabering, led by none other than our illustrious Professor Jonathan Masur.
For those of you returning, welcome back! For those who do not know it: the Hemingway Society explores the intersection of alcohol, academia, and the law across several gatherings over the course of the year. Each event features a faculty member, who will speak about the topic of the night (e.g. Malört and torts; the drinks of the Founding Era). Alongside the talk will be appropriately catered drinks— alcoholic and non-alcoholic— and snacks (heavy in protein!).
Given these delightful amenities, we do require attendees to either purchase a membership or pay individually per event. Membership is $50 for the year for ALL 9 events. Alternatively, you can pay $10 for the singular event, night of.
This convening is open to all invitees regardless of vaccination status and, because of ongoing health risks to the unvaccinated, those who are unvaccinated are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures advised by public health officials (masking and social distancing, etc.). Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others, including venue staff, and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures.
This is a mask-optional convening. We strongly encourage unvaccinated individuals and those preferring to wear masks to do so.
