Professor Douglas Levene is an Associate Professor of Law at the Peking University School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China since 2010. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an S.B. in 1973 and received a M.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University in 1975. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1981 and clerked for Senior Judge J. Edward Lumbard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then for Chief Justice Warren Burer of the Supreme Court after graduation. He has practiced law in Hong Kong and New York with Clearly, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Jones Day, concentrating on mergers and acquisitions. He subsequently served as Chief M&A Counsel of Kraft Foods, Inc. in Northfield, Illinois, and as Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of Philip Morris Capital Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut.
