Judge Carl J. Nichols serves on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Before his appointment to the bench, he was a partner at WilmerHale in Washington, D.C., and served in various positions at the Department of Justice, including Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General for the Federal Programs Branch. Judge Nichols has presided over a number of important cases during his time on the bench, including former President Trump’s tax returns and policies towards TikTok. Judge Nichols received his B.A. with high honors Dartmouth College and J.D. with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a member of the University of Chicago Law Review. Following law school, he clerked for Judge Laurence Silberman of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court.
