What does it mean to be a Christian lawyer? How should believers integrate their legal practice and their faith? Ed Tiesenga and Steve Bretsen will lead a discussion on the Christian’s vocation in the field of law.

Stephen N. Bretsen is Professor and William Volkman Chair of Business and Law at Wheaton College. He received his J.D. from the University of Colorado, and prior to his work in academia, Professor Bretsen was an in-house attorney and a director-level corporate development executive for several Fortune 500 companies. His articles have appeared in several law reviews, Christian Business Academy Review, and Journal of Biblical Integration in Business. He is a member of the Christian Legal Society, Christian Business Faculty Association, and the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.

Edward N. Tiesenga is the Managing Partner of Tiesenga & DeBoer LLP, a commercial law firm in Oak Brook, IL. He received his J.D. from American University. Mr. Tiesenga represents a diverse commercial client base including product manufacturers, distributors, and exporters; suppliers and assemblers; specialty plastics and electronics engineering companies; software developers; recycling and waste hauling companies; contractors and cross-border advisory firms. Mr. Tiesenga serves as a trustee for the Village of Oakbrook and is a member of the Christian Legal Society.

This convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures.
