The value of data is rising rapidly due to exponentially-increasing capabilities in artificial intelligence, process automation, data analytics, and data collection. The stunning market values of companies built astride large data flows, and their increasing role in our daily lives, has cast a spotlight on data. New cybersecurity and data privacy laws appear to be only the start of a regulatory response.

These data changes are a big deal for outsourcing. Outsourcing has restructured the economy by processing data beyond company and country boundaries, and by creating and transforming data, generally without compensating any “data owner” or “data subject.” The coming world will present significant opportunities and challenges for the outsourcing industries. The opportunities will include ways to deliver traditional services more efficiently and new services and insights. The challenges may include increasing restrictions on data flows for privacy and national security reasons, regulatory limits on monetization of data, and emerging concepts of property rights in data.

The goal of this conference is to help thought leaders in the outsourcing industry prepare for the changes ahead.

Presented in partnership with IBM, Kirkland & Ellis, Mayer Brown, and the Kirkland & Ellis Corporate Lab at the University of Chicago Law School.
