Sarah Kang '15 Named April’s Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month

Editor's note: The Pro Bono Board, a student group committed to expanding pro bono knowledge and opportunities to students, names a Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month. The April honoree is Sarah Kang,’15. Rebecca Smith, a member of the board, wrote this story on her work. Sarah Kang worked tirelessly this year to put together the Spring Break of Service, which sent University of Chicago law students to work for public defenders and legal aid organizations in New Orleans, Knoxville, and Biloxi. This year, students completed over 1,520 hours of pro bono work during their spring break!

Sarah and the rest of the Spring Break of Service board were able to double the number of students attending spring break projects from last year while staying within the same budget – not a small feat. Sarah said the board was excited to be able to send students to all three locations this year, and that they are always open to new locations for future trips.

Sarah graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in political science and urban policy and planning. After graduation, she worked with Teach for America in New Orleans as a kindergarten teacher. During her 1L summer, Sarah worked for DLA Piper, and this summer, she will be working at Kirkland & Ellis. In addition to leading the Spring Break of Service trip, Sarah is involved with the Student Admissions Committee, the Clinic Student Board, and APALSA.

The Pro Bono Student Board is excited to present Sarah Kang as April's Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month!
