Getting around the Law School

The Law School has two single-user restrooms: A200 (in the Dean’s Suite) and C105 (which requires a key from the Dean of Students). The University's Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Student Life keeps a list of gender-neutral and single-user restrooms on campus.

Getting to the Law School

Public transit

The University of Chicago has a real-time bus locator for the Chicago Transit Authority buses that serve Hyde Park.

The Metra commuter train also runs from downtown to Hyde Park. Catch it at the Randolph, Van Buren, or Roosevelt station. Get off at 59th Street and walk west to the campus. Turn left on Woodlawn, then right on 60th street. The Law School is a block down on your left.

Driving directions

From Lake Shore Drive: Exit at 57th Drive (the Museum of Science and Industry). Go west and curve around the museum. Take the fourth right onto the Midway Plaisance and go west to the campus. Turn left on Woodlawn, then right on 60th street. The Law School is a block down on your left.

From the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94): Exit at Garfield Blvd. ( 55th St.) and drive east, following the signs for 55th Street through Washington Park. Once you cross over Cottage Grove Avenue, turn right on Ellis Avenue. Follow South for about 5 blocks, then turn left on 60 th Street. The Law School is on your right.

From the Northern Suburbs: Take I-90/94 to I-55 North to Lake Shore Drive South and then follow the directions above.

From the Western Suburbs: Take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) to I-90/94 East. Exit on the I-55 North Exit and then to Lake Shore Drive South and then follow the directions above.

From the Southern Suburbs: Take the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) northbound, exiting at Stony Island Avenue. Drive north on Stony Island to the westbound Midway Plaisance (between 60th and 59th Streets). Turn left onto the Midway Plaisance, and go west to campus. Turn left on Woodlawn, then right on 60 th street. The Law School is a block down on your left. (I-57 travelers: Take I-94 east to reach the Stony Island ramp.)

From the Southwest Suburbs: Take I-55 N. 5 miles to exit 292B, toward Indiana. Exit onto the Dan Ryan Expressway, continue for 0.6 miles. Merge onto I-90 E. Take exit number 57B towards W. 55th St./Garfield Blvd. Continue for almost a mile, then turn slightly right onto Morgan Drive. Morgan Drive becomes E. 57th Street. Continue down E.57th Street until S. Ellis Ave. Turn right onto S. Ellis Ave. Follow South for about 5 blocks, then turn left on 60 th Street. The Law School is on your right.

From Indiana: Take I-65 N or I-80 W to the Skyway (I-90/94 W). Drive westbound on the Skyway, exiting at Stony Island. Drive North on Stony Island and turn left on 60th Street. The Law School is about 5 blocks down on the left.

From the airport

From O'Hare Airport: Take I-90 East to Chicago. Once past downtown Chicago, exit to I-55 North and then to Lake Shore Drive South. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at 57th Drive. Follow 57th Drive as it curves left around the Museum of Science and Industry and turns into Cornell Drive. Turn right onto the Midway Plaisance (no traffic light, but there is a sign at that corner pointing to I-94). Cross Stony Island Avenue and Dorchester Avenue. Turn left on Woodlawn Avenue and then right at the stop sign onto 60th Street. The Law School will be on your left (1111 East 60th Street). To park, turn at your first left from 60th Street (into University Place; it dead-ends into a fence) and pull into the parking lot. Parking passes are available for $10 at the reception desk on the first floor of the Law School.

From Midway Airport: Go north on Cicero Avenue to I-55. Take I-55 North to Chicago and exit to Lake Shore Drive South. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at 57th Drive. Follow 57th Drive as it curves left around the Museum of Science and Industry and turns into Cornell Drive. Airport Shuttle: If you are downtown, you can easily get to the Law School by using public transportation; however, using public transportation to get to the Law School from either airport can be difficult as you will need to transfer modes of transport somewhere downtown. You may want to contact Omega Shuttle at 773-483-OMEGA (773-483-6634) or www.omegashuttle.com. Omega has designated stops at the University and around Hyde Park. Another option is Continental Airport Express at 888-2TheVan (888-284-3826) or www.airportexpress.com. If you plan to use one of these services, you should contact them before arriving in Chicago.
