Kara Ingelhart is a senior attorney in the Midwest Regional Office of Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest organization dedicated to advancing the rights of LGBT people and people living with HIV, where she previously served as a Skadden Fellow. Kara has played an instrumental role in advancing the rights of LGBT people and people living with HIV under federal civil rights laws. Most recently, Kara was counsel in successful federal lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of military policies excluding open service by transgender people as well as discriminatory policies impacting service members living with HIV. In addition to her work as a litigator, Kara has contributed to federal and state legislative and policy efforts concerning the inclusion of protections for LGBT people and people living with HIV who are involved in the federal criminal legal system. The National LGBT Bar Association recognized her as one of the Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 (2020). Kara graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 2015 and from Indiana University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Gender Studies.
