A First for Law School Faculty
Ronald Coase was awarded the 1991 Nobel Prize in Economics - the first member of any law school faculty to win this award. His article "The Problem of Social Cost," in which he developed the famed Coase theorem, was published in the Journal of Law and Economics in 1960. The article topped a 1996 study of the most cited articles in the history of legal scholarship, with nearly twice as many citations as the next article on the list. It is widely stated that this same article is also the most cited article in economics.
