“Have We Oversold Homeownership?”

Many commentators have claimed that the recent collapse of the housing market and the economic problems that have ensued from this collapse were caused in part by federal housing policy that promoted homeownership for low and moderate income families. In this talk, Dean Schill will briefly examine some of the costs and benefits of homeownership and assess to what extent federal law and policy in this area should be changed.
