Michael Doss served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Philadelphia from 1991 to 1996 and was a partner and senior counsel at Sidley Austin LLP from 1997 until his retirement from the firm in 2019.  As an Assistant United States Attorney, Mr. Doss acted as lead prosecutor in numerous criminal investigations and jury trials, and received commendations from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Postal Inspection Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in connection with those prosecutions. While at Sidley Austin, Mr. Doss was involved in a broad range of trial and appellate litigation, and assisted clients in responding to government investigations, including investigations involving claims under the antitrust laws, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the False Claims Act. Mr. Doss also conducted and oversaw many internal investigations for corporations in response to allegations of misconduct and shareholder demands. In addition, Mr. Doss has had an active pro bono practice, mostly representing inmates in post-conviction and related proceedings, including representation of a death row inmate in Alabama.

Mr. Doss received his J.D., magna cum laude, in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief for the Law Review. Following law school, Michael served as a law clerk for Judge James L. Oakes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and then for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court.
