The Class of 2024 Celebrates Pro Bono Service Contributions

Seventy-six members of this year’s graduating class contributed more than 13,000 pro bono hours throughout their time at the Law School. Sixty-four members of the Class of 2024 completed the Pledge to work at least 50 pro bono hours. Twenty-five members of the Class completed more than 250 hours, earning Pro Bono Honors recognition.

Emily Buss, the Mark and Barbara Fried Professor of Law, gave inspirational welcome remarks on the importance of pro bono work and thanking the students for their incredible contributions.

Darius Diamond, ’24, earned the Pro Bono Award of Excellence, logging more than 640 hours throughout his time in Law School. Diamond shared poignant words about the kindness inherent in pro bono legal work, and the importance and impact of selfless contributions to our communities.

Susan Curry, senior director of public service and pro bono, and Elise Tincher, assistant director of public service and pro bono, presented additional public interest awards. Isabelle Argueta, ’24, was honored with the James C. Hormel Public Service Award, and Liam Haffey, ’25, earned the 2L Public Service Award. The Student Organization Pro Bono Award went to the Latinx Law Students Association.

Julie Justicz, ’88, executive director of Legal Council for Health Justice, delivered a keynote address prior to students receiving their awards. Justicz highlighted the importance of finding love in the law, and encouraged the students to engage in pro bono work throughout their professional careers as a part of loving what they do and caring for their communities.
