Pro Bono Training: Prisoner Letter Writing Initiative

10/25

Room B
1111 East 60th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60637
Open to the Law School community

The Pro Bono Service Initiative, in conjunction with the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), will be training students to reply to legal queries from prisoners.

The NCLR fields letters from prisoners, many from transgender women inquiring about legal issues related to being held in facilities according to their gender identity, receiving hormone treatment in prison, and assault and improper discipline. NCLR is looking to train students to reply to these letters under the supervision of attorneys. Students who are trained can volunteer to participate in workshops at the law school throughout the year, working with their classmates to research and answer letters. This is a great opportunity for 1Ls and other students who wish to fulfill their pro bono hours on campus.
