Demonstrators on Wednesday gathered in plazas across Venezuela to mourn the death of President Hugo Chavez. While many Venezuelan-Americans are staunchly anti-Chavez, other Latinos see him as a champion of the poor. Daniel Lansberg-Rodriguez, a columnist for Venezuelan newspaper El Universal and a fellow at the University of Chicago-based Comparative Constitutions Project, talks about U.S. Latinos’ divergent opinions of the leftist leader.
