Debra Cafaro, chairman and CEO of Ventas Inc., which runs health care real estate properties, has donated $4 million to the University of Chicago Law School to pay for full-ride scholarships to students in need.
A graduate of the law school, Ms. Cafaro was the first in her family to go to college and credits her U of C degree with propelling her to the CEO job she holds today.
“I came to the job in 1999 not knowing anything about health care. Law school gave me the foundation and confidence and ability to say I can learn about health care and be able to solve the complex set of issues that surrounded Ventas at that time,” Ms. Cafaro told me in an interview.
