Amy M. Hermalik

Lecturer in Law and Assistant Director of the Institute for Justice Entrepreneurship Clinic

As Assistant Director of the IJ Clinic, Amy helps University of Chicago law students as they take their first steps into the practice of law— providing legal advice, under her supervision, to low-income entrepreneurs. She also provides general corporate counsel to the IJ Clinic’s clients, helping them navigate the complexities of legal and regulatory environments. Additionally, Amy teaches a class on entrepreneurship at the law school and advocates at the city and state level for entrepreneurs who are not usually well-represented in the political space when decisions are made—the poor and the yet-to-come. She is passionate about creating economic opportunity in low-income communities, making sure everyone has a real chance to achieve the American Dream, evening the playing field of access to legal representation, and ensuring good, efficient, effective government.
