Jamil Dakwar is the Director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Human Rights Program. He leads a team of lawyers and researchers who use a human rights framework to complement existing ACLU legal and legislative advocacy and advise ACLU national programs and affiliates across the country on international law. The Human Rights Program conducts human rights research, documentation and public education, as well as engages in litigation and advocacy before U.S. courts and international human rights bodies. Before joining the ACLU, he worked at Human Rights Watch and before coming to the United States he worked at Adalah: The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel. He is an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Hunter College. He is a graduate of Tel Aviv University and NYU School of Law.
