Parking
The Law School's parking lot will be open to all parkers on June 13 and there is street parking. If you are concerned about parking, please plan to arrive early. Reserve parking is available in the Law Lot for guests with disabilities (if it was pre-arranged by May 18) (see section on Guests with Special Needs).
Street parking is available on the Midway Plaisance, as well as on nearby streets around campus. The University parking structure is located on 55th Street, with entrances on both Ellis and Greenwood. In addition, the University of Chicago Hospitals operates a paid parking facility located at 59th Street and Maryland Avenue.
Hints for Dressing
Most men wear shirts and ties under their robes (don't wear a jacket because it is usually very hot. Have someone bring your jacket if you want it for the reception). Most wear dark dress pants or khakis - and shoes or loafers. Most women wear dresses, some wear pants - and pumps or sandals. Keep in mind that these robes are hot, hot, hot. Most years it manages to get into the 90s - if that is the case, more people wind up in shorts. Most guests are in business/business casual attire.
Assembling to March for the University Ceremony
Note: Please don t be late. Your name will be removed from the marching order. Please be at Ratner Athletics Center (5530 South Ellis Avenue) by 8:15 a.m. You will then pick-up your marching card, which indicates your place in the procession. Candidates not in line by 8:45AM will NOT be permitted to march and participate in convocation.
Assembling to March for the Hooding Ceremony
Please go to the Basement of Rockefeller Chapel immediately after the University Ceremony.
Seating Your Guests
University Ceremony Guest seating in Harper Quadrangle begins at 8:15 am. Hooding Ceremony Guest seating in Rockefeller Chapel begins at 10:30 am.
Transporting Your Guests
We will have a trolley stationed at 58th and University after the University Ceremony. It will help in transporting elderly guests and guests with mobility concerns to the Hooding Ceremony and to the reception.
Photography/Composites
Chappell Graduation Images will record the ceremony and photograph candidates receiving their diplomas at Convocation. Approximately two weeks after the ceremony, students will receive by mail, directly from Chappell, a passport-size, full-color proof of the photo of them receiving their diploma, as well as information about purchasing DVDs and photographs. There is no obligation to purchase.
Wyckoff-Tweedie Photographers will be taking individual photos at Rockefeller Chapel as you are hooded. These proofs will be mailed to you approximately two weeks after the ceremony. They will also be taking family photos, etc. at the Law School Reception immediately following the hooding ceremony which will be available for purchase.
