How to Get the Word Out To Your Fellow Students
If you need to get in touch with large numbers of your fellow students, whether to announce an event or to buy or sell a book, there are several ways to do so. We will keep this list updated as further electronic communications methods become available.
Lawannounce mailing list: Most students’ uchicago.edu email addresses are subscribed to this mailing list automatically before they start at the Law School. If you are not subscribed (or wish to unsubscribe), you can do so here. Here are a few hints to ensure that your message reaches the widest possible audience: - To post to the mailing list, send an e-mail to lawannounce@listhost.uchicago.edu.
- Send your e-mail from your uchicago.edu account rather than a third-party account such as yahoo.com, gmail.com, etc.
- Include a topic in the subject line that will allow others to quickly identify whether they would like to read your message. Examples include:
- Student Group Event [include Date, Time & Place]
- Social Event [include Date, Time & Place]
- Class Discussion Group Meeting
- Community Service Event
- Item for Sale; Items Wanted
- Lost / Found Item
- Ride Needed / Ride Offered
- Keep your messages short, and do not include or attach large files (such as PowerPoint or video); these can slow down the delivery of your message, and they are often rendered unusable by the mailing list software.
Facebook: Many Law School students (approximately 400, as of Feb. 2008) have Facebook profiles, and an increasing number of LSA-sponsored groups and individual class years have established groups on Facebook; this can be a good way to get messages to specific groups of Law School students. Check out the Law School’s Facebook page for a list of these groups. Need help with additional communications services? Contact Marsha Nagorsky, Assistant Dean for Communications, or Aaron Rester, Manager of Electronic Communications, to set up a meeting.
