Neighbors

Founded in 1993, Neighbors is the Law School’s primary community service organization. The group offers weekly volunteer opportunities at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC) and Kenwood Academy, as well as service events throughout the year.

At HPNC, Neighbors runs Lawyers in the Classroom activities with middle school and high school students, and helps to coordinate volunteers for a one-on-one mentoring program. At Kenwood Academy, Neighbors volunteers aid high school students in preparing their applications for the Gates scholarship and provide one-on-one tutoring. These programs aim to help students develop their leadership skills and connect them with law students to foster positive relationships.

Neighbors also plans service events throughout the year, including the Fall Day of Service, which encourages law students to participate in a day of service at a number of local organizations, and the Blood Drive. Overall, Neighbors provides University of Chicago law students the opportunity to give back to the local community.
