Visiting Students

Thank you for your interest in applying to the University of Chicago Law School as a visiting student. Visiting students may spend all or a portion of their third academic year of law school at Chicago.

In reviewing visiting student applications, our Admissions Committee primarily considers two factors: (1) the nature of your reasons for wanting to study law at Chicago; and 2) the probability that your academic performance here will meet the requirements imposed by your current law school.

Please complete our Visiting Application electronically through the Law School Data Assembly Service ("LSDAS"). You must submit all required application materials, which include a resume, personal statement, two letters of recommendation, a law school transcript, and the Visiting Student Approval Form.  Please make sure to describe the reasons for your interest in studying at Chicago in your personal statement.

Please pay special attention to question number 3 on the Visiting Student Approval Form, which is a supplemental form available from LSDAS. Since Chicago is likely to be on a different academic calendar than the law school you now attend, the date our grades become available may have an impact on your graduation date and your ability to take the July bar examination. You may wish to discuss this issue with the administration at your law school and the bar examiners in the state where you plan to take the bar examination. Please note that your law school will need to submit the Visiting Student Approval Form directly to the Admissions Office and it will not be transmitted through LSAC.

Scholarship support is not available to visiting students, although you may qualify for government and private loans through your home school. The current tuition rate and student budget is available in the Financial Aid section of the website. Please also note that Chicago does not offer a part-time or evening academic program. We offer a full-time day program only.

The visiting student application process for 2010-2011 has ended. Please check this page in April 2011 for information about the 2011-2012 application process. The application will be available in May.

Please contact us at admissions@law.uchicago.edu if you have any questions.
