Visiting students

Thank you for your inquiry about the possibility of spending all or a portion of your third academic year at Chicago as a visiting student. Each year we have students attending Chicago as visitors and we would be pleased to consider an application from you.

Please complete our J. D. application electronically through the LSDAS electronic application. The personal statement required should be your statement fully describing your reasons for wishing to be at Chicago.

Please pay special attention to question number 3 on the Visiting Student Approval Form. Since Chicago is likely to be on a different calendar than the school you now attend, the date our grades become available may have an impact on your graduation date and your ability to take a July bar examination. You may wish to discuss this issue with officials at your school and the bar examiners in the state where you plan to take the bar examination.

Please note that scholarship support is not available to visiting students, although you may qualify for government and private loans. The 2008-2009 tuition at Chicago is $41,157. Please also note that Chicago does not offer a part-time or evening academic program.

While there is no deadline for a visiting student application, we recommend that you submit it as soon as possible. Your application will be reviewed once we have the electronic J.D. application (which includes your statement describing your reasons for wishing to be at Chicago), the Visiting Student Approval Form, and your official law school transcript.

In reviewing visiting student applications, our Admissions Committee considers two factors: 1) the compelling nature of your reasons for being in Chicago; and 2) the probability that your academic performance here will meet the requirements imposed by your current law school.

Please contact us if you have any questions.
