Teach for America Partnership
The University of Chicago Law School and Teach For America seek highly talented, diverse individuals to lead the efforts confronting some of our country's most pressing social issues. We have partnered to offer the following benefits for qualified individuals who wish to join Teach For America and then attend the University of Chicago Law School:
- The Law School will offer a two-year deferment to applicants who are accepted to Teach For America.
- The Law School will waive application fees for all current corps members as well as alumni of Teach For America.
- The University of Chicago Law School - Teach For America Fellowship has been established to set aside specific scholarship dollars for Teach For America Corps members and alumni. The Law School will provide $30,000 in scholarship funds to up to five newly admitted Teach For America alumni a year.
- One $35,000 scholarship per year will be awarded to a qualified alumnus/a pursuing a joint degree at the Law School and the Harris School of Public Policy. Corps members and alumni will receive full consideration for all other need and merit based tuition assistance.
Application Fee Waiver
The application fee will be automatically waived for TFA members and alumni as long as they complete the required steps below. You do not need to request the fee waiver in advance or apply for it; simply follow the steps below when you are submitting your application:
1) When you are completing your application through LSAC, print off the Certification Letter under the "Forms" tab of the electronic JD Application. Sign this letter, write "TFA member" on it, and mail it to our Admissions Office. (Do not pay the application fee; we are unable to reimburse your application fee and you will print and submit the Certification Letter in lieu of paying the application fee.)

2) (After you have submitted your application) Request that your Teach For America supervisor or manager email our office confirming your participation in Teach For America. The email which should contain your name, dates of participation, and location of service. The email should be sent directly to the Admissions general email box: admissions@law.uchicago.edu.
