Podcast Instructions
The University of Chicago Law School is now offering podcasting through the Faculty Blog. Podcasting is really just a fancy word for subscription access to a service we have offered for a while - the ability to listen on line to recorded Law School events. Podcasting will enable you to access this material through our faculty blog, and, if you're interested, to automatically get these downloaded to your portable mp3 player or iPod. You can access all of our podcasts through here. Instructions for various ways of listening are below. Subscribing to our feed is very easy - feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
To listen to an audio file or watch a video on your computer: Simply click on the link wherever you find it, whether on our Faculty Blog or on our website. The file will launch and you will be able to listen to it right on your computer.
To download an audio file to your computer: On a PC, right-click (use the right botton on your mouse) on the file link and choose "Save Target As..." Save the file to anywhere on your hard drive. On a Mac, right-click the link and choose "Download Linked File." Save the file to anywhere on your hard drive.
To download the file to your portable player: Follow the instructions to download the file, saving the file to wherever you save files in order to get them to sync with your portable player. This will be the same place that you save your music to for syncing with your portable player. On a Mac syncing with an iPod, one of the right click options is "Open With iTunes" - this option will immdediately put this item into your iTunes library.
To subscribe to our podcasts through iTunes and automatically have new content downloaded to your iPod: If you are using an iPod, you can find our feed in the iTunes catalog. Go to the iTunes store, click on Podcasts, and then in the search window type "Chicago Faculty Blog." Click to subscribe. iTunes will check regularly and download any new content we post into your iTunes library. When you sync your iPod, it will get copied onto your iPod.
To subscribe to our podcast feed: If you do not use iTunes, you will need to "subscribe to our feed" in order to take advantage of the subscription concept. This is a bit more complex than iTunes, but not much. You'll need to use a "podcatcher" - which is software that allows you to have the same kind of subscription as described in the iTunes section above. There are several different podcatchers available, including Ziepod, iPodder, Primecast, etc. (We do not endorse any particular podcatcher.) On the left side of our blog is a link that says "subscribe to our podcast." Clicking on this will take you to our feed. The address http://uchicagolaw.typepad.com/faculty/rss.xml can be used in any "podcatching" software. Follow your podcatcher's instructions for adding our feed to your subscriptions. You can also now access the feed through Odeo.
(Note: for those who are using an aggregator to read blogs, our blog's feed is available on the left side of the page as well. if this is Greek to you, don't worry about it - it has nothing to do with our podcast.)
If you wish to learn more about the phenomenon of podcasting, you can read the entry about it at Wikipedia.
