Kathleen Philips '97 Named COO of Zillow

From Yahoo! Finance:

Zillow, Inc. the leading real estate and home-related information marketplace, today announced Kathleen Philips, who has served as general counsel since joining the company in 2010, has been named chief operating officer.

Philips played an instrumental role in the company's 2011 initial public offering, and has assumed increasing responsibility beyond the legal department to include human resources and customer service. She also oversees the company's M&A activities, including six acquisitions in less than two years.  In addition to her company-wide responsibilities, Philips heads Zillow's new and growing San Francisco office, which is home to more than 65 employees.

"I'm thrilled to name Kathleen Philips as Zillow's COO," said Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff. "Kathleen is an incredibly valuable member of our executive team, and this title much better describes the breadth of responsibilities she has successfully taken on over the last couple of years."

Prior to joining Zillow, Philips was general counsel at FanSnap, Inc., a venture capital-backed ticket search engine, where she was also responsible for customer support, online marketing, and finance operations. During her tenure, she also led lobbying efforts to transform state and federal ticket resale laws. Previously, she served as general counsel of Pure Digital Technologies, the maker of Flip Video cameras acquired by Cisco in 2009. Prior to that, Philips served as general counsel for StubHub, the online ticket marketplace acquired by eBay in 2007. She also previously served as general counsel at Hotwire.com, where she led the company's legal responsibilities through its 2003 acquisition by InterActiveCorp.

Philips received her Juris Doctor with Honors from University of Chicago Law School, and received her bachelor's degree with distinction from the University of California, Berkeley.
