William M. Tong '00 Under Consideration for United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut

In September, U.S. Senators Christopher Dodd and Joseph Lieberman sent a letter to President Barack Obama naming their four preferred finalists for the position of United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

The senators recommend acting U.S. Attorney Nora R. Dannehy; David B. Fein, a former associate counsel to President Bill Clinton; former supervisory assistant U.S. attorney Edgardo Ramos and state Representative William M. Tong of Stamford.

William Tong is an associate at Finn, Dixon and Herling, a corporate law firm with offices in Stamford and New Haven. He is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and represents clients in complex commercial litigation, business disputes and government investigations.

Tong also is a leader of the firm's Dispute Resolution and Risk Management team, and regularly counsels clients in managing disputes and risks related to sophisticated commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions.

In addition to practicing law, Tong is a Democratic legislator, representing the 147th Assembly District, covering areas of Stamford and New Canaan.

Tong is the first Asian American to be elected and to serve in the state's General Assembly. He is a member of the General Assembly's Judiciary, Energy and Commerce committees.

Before joining Finn, Dixon & Herling, Rep. Tong was an attorney with the international law firm of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP, and a management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He has also served as a commissioner on the Personnel Commission of the City of Stamford.

Tong is a graduate of Brown University and received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
