Planes and Automobiles, But No Trains (That We Know Of)
When the current Law School building was designed, the city of Chicago planned to erect an east/west depressed expressway in the block just south of 60th Street. This accounts for the fact that the school is designed to be viewed mainly from the north. In addition, the Law School building was, at the time, in the flight path of Midway Airport. The extreme noise from the regular passing of planes overhead explains why the main Law School classrooms have no windows.
