Douglas Levene is Associate Professor of Law at the Peking University School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an S.B. in 1973 and received an M.A. from Yale University in 1975. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1981. Following graduation he clerked first for Senior Judge J. Edward Lumbard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then for Chief Justice Warren Burger of the Supreme Court. He has practiced law in Hong Kong and New York with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Jones Day, concentrating on mergers and acquisitions. He subsequently served as Chief M&A Counsel of Kraft Foods, Inc. in Northfield, Illinois, and as Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of Philip Morris Capital Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut. Prof. Levene has been teaching at the Peking University School of Transnational Law since 2010.
His research and teaching interests include corporations, corporate finance, banking and derivatives regulation, and securities regulation.
