Clinical Professor of Law Randolph Stone was appointed Director of the Mandel Clinic in 1991. Before coming to the Law School he was the first African American Public Defender of Cook County, Illinois, responsible for managing a $32 million budget and leading a 750-person law office. After coming to the Law School, he helped create the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Project. He was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
