WEATHER CAUTION: Heavy Snow and Extreme Cold Predicted; University Officials Monitoring Situation
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Chicago, effective through Sunday evening, predicting heavy snowfalls accumulating to 10 inches in the city. Temperatures are are expected to plunge through Sunday and into Monday, with dangerous wind chill values as low as -40 to -50. With much of the University community returning to campus Sunday and Monday, University officials are asking all members of the community to plan ahead and take extra precautions. The wind-driven snow could disrupt travel, while the predicted temperatures and wind chills could lead to frostbite or hypothermia. If you are traveling, please make sure you have warm clothing with you and readily available. As temperatures drop, make sure to cover any exposed skin.
University leaders are closely monitoring the situation, and will be communicating plans and guidance in greater detail as warranted.
