Ruby Garrett, '16, Awarded Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholarship

Six Law Students Earn Diversity Scholarships

Ruby Garrett

Ruby Garrett, '16, has been selected as a 2015 Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholar. Garrett, the president of the Black Law Students Association, is one of six law students who were selected from a pool of nearly 300 applicants.

Now in its tenth year, the Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholars Program is designed to increase the number of diverse law students studying at ABA-accredited law schools who want to pursue a career in a global law firm and intend to practice law in the United States.

Each scholarship recipient will receive $10,000 for use during his or her third year of law school. Since its launch in 2005, the program has awarded almost $500,000 in scholarships to law students.

Candidates for the Diversity Scholars Program submitted written applications, detailing academic and leadership achievements as well as their life and work experiences.

“The applicants to our Diversity Scholars program are so inspiring and give me great hope and excitement about the future of the legal profession. Every candidate possesses so much talent and potential,” said Nadia Sager, Chair of the Diversity Leadership Committee at Latham & Watkins. “The six students we selected are truly the best of the best.”
