The Migration Policy Institute released a report last week emphasizing the importance of assigning child advocates for young immigrants arriving in the U.S. without parents or guardians. The report drew attention to University of Chicago Law School’s Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights as the only organization actually providing these minors with resources and support when they arrive alone. Maria Woltjen of Young Center details how policies can be put in place to help ensure these kids are not lost in the system.
