Bloomberg on Kirkland & Ellis's Corporate Lab Naming Gift

Kirkland & Ellis Endows School’s Corporate Lab

Sometimes good things come in very large packages.

Kirkland & Ellis made a gift Friday of almost $5.5 million to the University of Chicago Law School to support its corporate lab, a clinical education program the school began in 2009.

“It’s a naming gift,” Dean Michael Schill said in an interview. The program is now called the Kirkland & Ellis Corporate Lab.

The donation came about from a matching program at the firm, which counts 145 Chicago law school alumni among its ranks.

“The gift from the alumni was close to $3 million,” Schill said. The gift from the firm was $2.5 million. Together, the total gift was nearly $5.5 million.
