Amy M. Gardner, '02, to be New Dean of Students
The University of Chicago Law School is proud to announce that Amy M. Gardner, ’02, will join the Law School as Dean of Students on August 1, 2010.
“We are thrilled that Amy will be joining us,” said Michael H. Schill, Dean of the Law School. “Amy is one of our most active young alumni, and she truly understands our school and our students. She will be a tremendous asset to me and to our entire community in advocating for our students’ needs and supporting them during their time at the Law School.”
Ms. Gardner has been a devoted member of the University of Chicago community. She has long served as a mentor for the Law School Women’s Mentoring Program and a moot court judge, as well as serving on the Alumni Admissions Committee and as the gift chair of her class’s fifth reunion. She is a member of the University’s Alumni Board of Governors, and has been heavily involved with the University of Chicago Alumni Club of Chicago, serving as its president from 2008 to 2010. The University recognized Ms. Gardner’s commitment with the University of Chicago Young Alumni Distinguished Service Citation in 2007.
Ms. Gardner is currently a partner in the litigation department of Ungaretti & Harris LLP, concentrating in general commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. Before joining Ungaretti & Harris, Amy was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. During her career in law practice, she has also done substantial pro bono work, including serving as a Guardian ad Litem representing children who are the subject of guardianship disputes. Ms. Gardner’s work as a Guardian ad Litem has been profiled by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and resulted in her receipt of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation Distinguished Service Award in 2006.
Ms. Gardner recently received a 2010 Marshall Memorial Fellowship, where she participated in a four week trip to five European cities with fellows from across the United States. She was one of 54 emerging American leaders who were chosen for distinguishing themselves in their respective professions while demonstrating a commitment to enhancing relationships between the United States and Europe. She is also a founder and founding chair of the Chicago Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society.
Ms. Gardner graduated from The University of Chicago Law School in 2002 and served on the editorial board of the University of Chicago Law Review. She received her BA magna cum laude from Luther College in 1997 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
