Walls Memorial CME Church on Chicago's west side has operated an overnight homeless shelter for close to ten years. As an expansion of the shelter, the Church in conjunction with its outreach ministries arm, the Joshua Ministries, is working to rehabilitate the former church rectory into a group home for homeless veterans. The Housing Initiative drafted bylaws for the newly-formed Joshua Ministries and obtained a 501(c)(3) determination letter on its behalf. Currently, the Housing Initiative is advising the Church and Joshua Ministries on alternative ownership structures, financing strategies, service models, and partnership opportunities as they embark on the development process.
