Patrick Castle, ’12 (Class of 1949 Scholarship Fund)

Hometown: Coldwater, Michigan

Now: Associate at Grippo & Elden LLC

I grew up in Coldwater, Michigan and received a BA in philosophy from Kalamazoo College in 2007.  Upon graduation I joined Teach for America, and for two years taught ninth grade special education and social studies in Saint Louis, Missouri. I applied for law school at the outset of my second year of teaching and was thrilled to be accepted to the University of Chicago Law School.

I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was a child, although my reasons have changed along the way.  I was originally drawn to the profession because the law prizes fairness.  That remains true, but my studies at the Law School helped me to appreciate the practice of law on a more personal level: as a rewarding outlet for creative thought.  I am ever grateful for that, and for the support I received as a beneficiary of the Class of 1949 Scholarship Fund.
