Sherod Thaxton
Sherod Thaxton received his BA in political science from the University of California at Davis in 1997 and his JD from the Law School in 2008. He earned his MA and PhD in sociology from Emory University in 2000 and 2009, respectively. While in law school, Mr. Thaxton was awarded a John M. Olin Student Fellowship in Law and Economics and the Public Interest Law Prize. He was also a member of the University of Chicago Law Review and the University of Chicago Legal Forum. Mr. Thaxton is a former American Bar Foundation Law and Social Science Doctoral Fellow and Open Society Institute Soros Justice Postgraduate Fellow. From 2008 to 2011, Mr. Thaxton worked as an attorney in the Capital Habeas Unit of the Office of the Federal Defender for the Eastern District of California.
Mr. Thaxton's primary teaching and scholarly interests include criminal law and procedure, capital punishment, habeas corpus, and the sociology of law.
