Jack Oest
John Oest was an attorney for over thirty years with the Chicago law firm of Lord, Bissell & Brook (now Locke, Lord, Bissell & Liddell) specializing in complex commercial real estate transactions. He worked extensively in the areas of commercial leasing and the purchase and sale of various types of real estate assets and interests. He has an extensive background in real estate finance including joint ventures and the representation of syndicated lenders in various types of large loan transactions, particularly real estate construction loans. He has also been involved in numerous troubled loans, both ones which ended in restructures and those which resulted in foreclosure, the exercise of UCC remedies, or bankruptcy. He received his B.A. with highest honors from Denison University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon and received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Mr. Oest also served on his firm’s Executive Committee, was its Chief Financial Partner, and chaired its Compensation Committee.
He has been a member of the Chicago Bar Association’s Real Property Committee and Real Estate Finance Committee and is a member of the Chicago Mortgage Attorney’s Committee. He has lectured at various legal seminars and has been an instructor in the Legal Professions: Shades of Grey course at the University of Chicago Law School, where he taught segments relating to ethical issues arising in corporate transactions.
