Richard M. Kohn is a founding principal of Goldberg Kohn Ltd., where he represents banks and other financial institutions in structuring and documenting cross-border loans. Richard has also been active in secured transactions law reform, serving as a member of the Expert Group for the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in connection with the UNCITRAL Legislative Guide on Secured Transactions (2007) and related Supplement on Security Rights in Intellectual Property (2010), the UNCITRAL Guide on the Implementation of a Security Rights Registry (2013), and the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions (2016) and related Guide to Enactment (2017) and Practice Guide (2019), and is currently working on a project for the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT). He has also been involved in law reform initiatives in other countries. Richard served as Co-General Counsel of the Secured Finance Network (the principal U.S. trade association for the commercial finance industry), is a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, and has written and spoken extensively on cross-border lending topics. He received his B.A. in 1966 and his J.D. in 1969, both from the University of Michigan.
