Robert A. Helman
Mr. Helman has been a partner at Mayer Brown LLP since January 1, 1967. He served as chairman of the firm from 1984 to 1998. He has a general law practice concentrated on corporate and securities law, including corporate governance, M&A and restructuring matters. He served as a director of Northern Trust Corporation from 1986 - 2006 and has been a director of several other publicly-owned companies.
Mr. Helman attended the University of lllinois and Northwestern University (B.S.L. 1954, LL.B 1956). He was Associate Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He began his law practice in 1956 with the firm of Isham, Lincoln & Beale, and became a partner in that firm in 1965. He has been active in professional, civic, and charitable organizations, has contributed articles to legal periodicals, helped organize the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (serving as President 1973-75), served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1956-58, and is an emeritus trustee of The Brookings Institution.
Mr. Helman was born in 1934. He and his wife, Janet, have three adult children, two grandchildren, and have lived in Hyde Park for more than 40 years.
