Thomas Hale
Thomas A. Hale is a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and represents clients in the development, structuring, distribution, operation and regulation of a broad range of investment management and other financial products. Mr. Hale received his undergraduate degree in Economics, with High Distinction, in 1979 from Northwestern University, and graduated in 1982 from Duke University School of Law, where he served on the Editorial Board of the Duke Law Journal and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He became associated with Skadden Arps in 1984 and has been a partner since 1990.
His practice includes representing public and private investment funds, underwriters, investment advisers, investors and other participants in the financial markets. In the public investment company area, Mr. Hale has advised issuers and underwriters in over 200 initial public offerings and secondary market financings by closed-end investment companies, and he regularly advises open-end mutual funds in the initial structuring and offering of their shares and acts as counsel to public investment funds and their independent directors. He also represents sponsors, investors and placement agents in connection with the formation and operation of domestic and offshore private investment funds that pursue a full range of investment strategies, including private equity financing, venture capital, relative value, risk arbitrage and other alternative investment strategies, as well as multi-manager fund-of-fund strategies. He has been involved in a number of purchase and sale transactions in the asset management industry and counsels industry participants on a full range of securities-related regulatory matters, civil litigation and regulatory investigations and proceedings.
